#BuildAKL Campaign

City Care are proud to be a key partner of the #BuildAKL campaign, which aims to help young people into construction and infrastrcture jobs or training programmes. We are deeply committed to supporting all young people fulfil their life goals, and getting involved with the #BuildAKL campaign complements our values and culture.

Over 600 young Aucklanders entered the BuildAKL competition to win four weeks’ paid work experience with leading construction companies. There were 11 winners: young men and women from all over Auckland who wanted to try working in construction – NO experience needed. They start their four-week stints on 16 January 2017.

Lera is the #BuildAKL recruit who will be joining City Care to try his hand at all the available career pathways and to experience life as part of the City Care community.  A ‘Westie’, Lera is excited about getting stuck into his City Care role: “I feel like I can do better with my life. I’m enthusiastic. I bring energy to whatever I do, I make friends real fast and I love to talk to people.”

The Pre Apprentice Work Skills Programme is our Christchurch based “earn as you learn” initiative providing young people (16 – 25) with the opportunity to experience the varied career paths available in the infrastructure industry.  Pre Apprentices develop valuable life skills and work ethic while also completing a Level 2 New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works that will set them up for a rewarding and lifelong career.

Our Civil Construction Cadet Programme is a two to three year course offering cadets paid work experience across a variety of projects. With the opportunity to work alongside managers and supervisors within different disciplines, our cadets can continue to grow their construction skills with the chance to take on junior site engineering, further specialisation, or an operation role upon completion of the programme. You can find out more about the Cadet Programme here.
